Why Meditate?

Living amongst the hustle and bustle has a physiological effect on us. We begin to live in a state of “fight or flight”. We become wired in stress. We are constantly firing off hormones and processing things on a cellular level that indicate that we are in a continuous state of stress, panic and anxiety.

Psychological stress has been shown to increase the sympathetic nervous system and the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis. This causes our bodies to constantly release adrenaline, noradrenaline, and cortisol. In short, this ultimately leads to: high blood pressure, vaso-constriction, inflammation, fatigue, poor digestion, anxiety, depression, unbalanced relationships, eating disorders, interrupted sleep, low self-esteem, difficulty concentrating, poor memory, hormone imbalances, infertility, and a weakened immune system.

What can we do to detach from the chaos and find a few moments of peace?

A deep state of relaxation, found through meditation, deeply affects one’s emotional, physical and mental states. Relaxation allows the parasympathetic nervous system to do its work, proper digestion, circulation of blood and oxygen for nourishment of our cells, supporting a strong immune system, energy-boosting, increased vitality and over all balanced physiology.  This allows serotonin and the growth hormone to fire, which heals and repairs cells.

Meditation creates space for relaxation and allows for regeneration of the mind, body and soul.
